Trainee Travel Award Application

Up to 10 awards may be granted!

Purpose:

The SIS Trainee Travel Award was established to support the participation of medical students, PhD students, residents, and fellows at the Surgical Infection Society’s Annual Meeting.

The award recognizes outstanding trainees who demonstrate a strong interest in the prevention, diagnosis, and management of surgical infections, and who show promise for future contributions to the field.

Eligibility:

  • Open to all current trainees including: medical students, residents, fellows and PhD students in accredited training programs at the time of submission of the application.
  • Award receipients must be able to attend the entire 45th Annual Meeting, taking place May 5-6 in Coronado, CA.
  • Active membership in the Surgical Infection Society is encouraged but not required.

Award Description:

  • Each award provides financial support to offset travel and meeting-related expenses, in the amount of $2,000.
  • Registration for the 45th Annual Meeting will be waived.
  • Award recipients will be recognized during the SIS Annual Meeting.
  • Up to 10 awards may be granted each year based on merit and available funding.

Selection Criteria:
Recipients are selected by the SIS Awards Committee based on:

  • The applicant’s demonstrated commitment to research or clinical care related to surgical infections.
  • Potential for continued academic or professional engagement in the field.

Application Process:
Eligible trainees will be considered upon submission of:

  • A brief personal statement (≤300 words) outlining research interests and career goals.
  • A current curriculum vitae (CV).
  • Verification of trainee status from their school, program director or department chair.
